The Town of Andes is keeping pace at our own pace. Many projects are going on simultaneously that will enhance the beauty of the town
and the well-being of its residents and environment. Programs include:
Wind Energy Conversion System: The Town of Andes Planning Department is working on drafting a local
law regulating the placement, size, and impact of commercial wind energy systems on the towns ridgetops as
well as small wind systems on individual parcels.
Sewer Plant
Because Andes lies directly above the Pepacton Reservoir, village homeowners and businesses will have sewer
hook-ups. All hook-ups are completed on Route 28 as of December 2006 with a few last minor repairs being finalized
Town officials have information as to rates for yearly water metering.
Main Street Beautification: Using grants from the Dept of Transportation and member items from Senator
Bonacic, Andes will have a new look. The funds will be used primarily to enhance the entrances to the village
and upgrade the sidewalks and do plantings. Stan Cunningham is administrating the project and various
committees are actively at work to bring the pieces together on an ongoing basis.
The bids for the Streetscape project were opened as scheduled in the Albany offices of the Department of
Transportation (DOT). The low bid exceeded the engineer’s estimate, so much of the paperwork had to be
redone. The town board had to pass a new referendum along with a new affidavit by the town Supervisor.
These have been resubmitted to the DOT. We are now informed that the contract is scheduled to be
awarded in the Albany offices of DOT between December 14th and 18th, 2006. It would be most helpful if
anyone in the hamlet who requires repair to their water or sewer connections under Route 28 would
have the work done as soon as possible so that road work can be done.
Renovation of Train Station: Plans to turn this building into a vistor/tourist center are long term but ongoing. Andes is very
proud to be the recipient of a CWC grant to redo the roof of the building.
Low Income / Senior Housing: A study has been submitted to committee at the Office of the Aging and Delaware County Planning for
a possible site for senior or low income housing.
