The Hunting Tavern Museum at 288 Main Street Andes, 845-676-3533, is the site for many activities of the Andes Society for
History and Culture (ASHC) such as shows of local art, period dinners, musical, theatre and dance performances, local
history programs and seasonal social events. The ASHC also sponsors a yearly performance series which this year included
bluegrass music, satiric performance , country, folk and chamber music, held at the Pleasant Valley Meeting House, a former
church in the countryside which the Society owns and has refurbished. The church building, which seats about 70, is available
for a small fee, for privately sponsored performances as well. ASHC is open May - October, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, and
November - April, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10am - 3pm.
The Andes Public Library at 242 Main Street, 845-676-3333 is a cozy, welcoming community library, which may be soon be extending
its open hours to 20 per week. In addition to providing an area-wide internet book ordering system, the library has an
interesting collection of adult and children's books, audio books and carefully selected videos. The high speed internet
line is available free of charge to the public. Activities sponsored by the library include book sales, an annual silent
auction, book signings, poetry readings, craft and hobby workshops, game nights, storytelling, and camera club. The Andes
Gazette, a volunteer run newspaper, has its home at the library and welcomes contributions of writing and production.
The Andes Rountable meets Wednesday evenings at 7pm at the Hunting Tavern and hosts speakers on a wide range of subjects, as
well as occasional open discussions. Roger Bobley, the moderator, will add you to his e-mail announcement list if you are
interested in receiving a notice of the week's topic.
The Andes Hotel often hosts comedy nights, dinner theatre, and bands in the bar or on the porch. And our Art Galleries at Blink and Chace Randall Gallery host
opening cocktail hours for new shows.
